Surgical Removal of Hemorrhoids
The surgical proceedure to remove hemorrhoids varies according to the severity or size of the condition and, to the location of the hemorrhoids themselves. Each technique involves the removal of the swollen veins, the hemorrhoids themselves, from the anus.
This proceedure usually involves a general anesthetic although, an epidural can be administered in some cases. Staples or stitches, that disolve over time, are used to repair the weak area inside the anus and prevet the hemorrhoids protruding. In particularly severe cases, the swollen veins are removed using a scalple.
Does Hemorrhoid Surgery Hurt?
Both methods require at least an overnight stay in hospital and can cause discomfort for around two weeks. Large hemorrhoids can also be removed using ligation or rubber bands
that cut the blood supply to the veins and cause them to shrink, this method can also cause some discomfort. In less severe cases, where removal is still nesscesary, the hemorrhoid can be frozen or removed using lasers.
Removal is always the last option and is generally only considered if the symptoms persist for a long time and are not healed using creams or suppositories. You may be advised to see a nutritionist who can help you modify your diet if you suffer from constipation. After surgery you will also be advised to on what foods to eat, especially if prescribed pain killers for a long period of time as these can affect the digestive system and make it more difficult to pass stools.
