Hygiene and Hemorrhoids
You can promote the healing process of the skin by using sitzt baths, ointments and medicated wipes, which are soaked with chamomile or Whitchhazel, which work to calm the skin. Avoid itching or scratching the soft tissue of the anus as you may cause skin fissures which become even more itchy and painful and can become infected.
Tips for your toilet routine:
Go only to the toilet when you need to.
Each person has their own natural rhythm. Some people pass a stool daily others may be less frequent, you certainly should not strain when using the toilet.
Use soft or medicated toilet paper and dab the area rather than wipe, once you have passed a stool.
Do not use soap for the cleaning the anus as this can often cause an erupyion of eczema, using water on its own is fine.
Clothes
Try to use 100 percent cotton underwear which allows the skin to breathe. Damp skin can become soft and weak making it prone to irritation and rashes. Artificial fibers tend not to allow the skin to breath and can cause excessive moisture to irritate the skin. If you do suffer from rashes or general itchy groin (jock itch) or itchy anus try using a non biological washing detergent. Bear in mind that it can take several washes before any biological agents are completely removed from clothes washed in biological detergent.
