Hemorrhoids Cream as an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Hemorrhoids Cream as an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Are hemorrhoid creams safe to use as anti-wrinkle creams?

There those that suggest hemorrhoid cream can be used to smooth wrinkles around the eyes but only anectdotal evidence that it works to remove wrinkles completely. It can infact be highly dangerous to apply hemorrhoid cream near the eyes because of the ingredients many creams contain. Ingredients such as LYCD — Live Yeast Cell Derivative — can have potentially serious effects on the eyes. Although the compound can reduce puffiness in the soft tissue around the anus the inherent dangers of using it on the extremely soft skin surrounding the eyes and the chance of it actually getting in the eyes means that this practice should be avoided at all costs. The Food and Drug Agency in the USA has ordered that hemorrhoid preparations should not contain LYCD since 1994.

European legislation is lagging behind although some manufacturers are voluntarily removing these dangerous compounds from their products. Some customers have complained that modern hemorrhoid creams are not as effective now they are LYCD free. Complaints that the new formulations are not as effective at reducing swelling and that the compounds replacing LYCD cause even worse eye irritation.

In professional hands the use of products containing LYCD are proven to heal skin injuries and is often used in burns units. This is of course a far cry from the general public self administering such treatments. However if LYCD is proven to aid the skins recovery, paticularly after surgery or burns why has it been removed from hemorrhoid treatmets in the USA?

The FDA were more concerned about the claims made by manufacturers of Hemorrhoid treatments and feltt that claims certain products could heal or cure hemorrhoids were not supported with adequate evidence. Because of this, the ingredients have been removed, they may not have been cures, they may however have been benefitial to sufferers of hemorrhoids thanks to the skin healing properties.
